This week’s never in vain drill is dedicated to a firefighter killed over 100 years ago in a fall from a roof. Many of our brothers and sisters are killed or injured in falls. A question that is often asked at RIT training is, "how do you protect the spine of a firefighter who has fallen and is in a toxic environment"? Obviously common sense must prevail. When extreme danger or life threatening injuries are present risk benefit must be weighed and a determination as to the best course of action should be made. When time permits and conditions are such that a little extra care can be taken you might consider the packaging technique included in this weeks drill
